Louis Mosley, who runs Palantir Technologies' UK and Europe business, says European governments need to accept that a degree of dependence on American technology companies is unavoidable, at least for now. Speaking to Bloomberg in Brussels, Mosley said "Europe is going to have to accept some dependency" on the US in the short term, pushing back against growing political pressure in the region to reduce reliance on US-built software and AI systems.
No "kill switch" on NATO's AI system
The comments came as Palantir moved to reassure European allies that it cannot unilaterally shut down the AI system NATO uses, following heightened anxiety about US tech dependence after disruptions to Starlink service in Ukraine. The concern is that a US company's products, whether satellite internet or military AI software, could be throttled or switched off based on decisions made in Washington rather than by the European governments relying on them.
