Apple has raised its production target for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, by about 44%, from 9.7 million to 14 million units over 12 months, according to Digitimes, after preorder demand far exceeded the company's expectations. Supply chain sources said instructions reflecting the higher target have gone out to Foxconn and component manufacturers, though actual output will depend on how smoothly assembly progresses.
Shipping estimates stretched to January within minutes
Demand became apparent almost immediately after preorders opened on October 16: within 30 minutes, US shipping estimates had already pushed out to January 25 across all configurations. That kind of early sellout is often a signal of strong initial demand, though it also reflects constrained supply for a device that has reportedly faced manufacturing difficulties affecting assembly, displays and hinges.
