Indonesia is preparing to raise up to 10 billion yuan, or roughly $1.5 billion, through a new panda bond sale, people familiar with the plans say, as Southeast Asia's largest economy looks to diversify away from dollar funding at a sensitive moment for its stock market. Indonesian officials met with prospective investors in Shanghai this week, and the bond could be marketed as soon as next month, with maturities spanning three, five and seven years.
The indicative size under discussion ranges from 7 billion to 10 billion yuan, with issuance targeted for November through early December. It would be Indonesia's second panda bond sale after a maiden 7 billion yuan offering in July, and the country has secured Chinese regulatory clearance to issue up to 30 billion yuan of panda bonds between 2026 and 2028.
