Blackstone's Jon Gray Pushes Back on AI Bubble Fears, Calls Demand 'Parabolic'
Days after Citadel's Ken Griffin warned of an AI bubble, Blackstone President Jon Gray argued the AI buildout is different — demand, he says, is outrunning capacity rather than the other way around.

Blackstone President Jon Gray is rejecting the idea that artificial intelligence investment has become a bubble, pushing back just days after Citadel founder Ken Griffin said investors are "almost certainly" caught up in one. Gray argued the dynamics driving today's AI buildout look nothing like past speculative booms.
"A very different dynamic"
"When you think about a bubble, you think about building capacity and then hoping the demand comes," Gray said. "With AI, you're building capacity, and you're hoping you can keep up with the demand." He contrasted that with the 1990s telecom buildout, which left providers with vastly more fiber-optic capacity than the market needed for years.
Gray pointed to Blackstone's own AI consulting partnership with Anthropic as evidence of the gap between supply and demand, saying the firm "can't keep up with customer demand" and describing growth as "almost parabolic." Gray, 56, has made AI infrastructure the biggest bet of his career, building Blackstone into a roughly $200 billion data-center investor and pushing AI tools into hundreds of the companies the firm controls. Still, he acknowledged a soft spot in the boom: so-called neoclouds, AI-focused cloud providers such as CoreWeave, have struggled to line up adequate financing even as demand for computing capacity surges.
